The Society

The Society of Foreign Consuls in New York was founded in 1925 and is incorporated under the laws of the State of New York. It exists to promote friendship and cooperation among the members of the consular corps, to assist its members in the discharge of their consular duties, and to maintain cordial relations with the authorities of the City and State of New York.

The Society of Foreign Consuls in New York was founded in 1925 and is incorporated under the laws of the State of New York. It exists to promote friendship and cooperation among the members of the consular corps, to assist its members in the discharge of their consular duties, and to maintain cordial relations with the authorities of the City and State of New York.

Our mission

To foster collegiality among consular officers in New York, to represent the shared interests of the consular corps, and to support each new generation of consuls arriving in the city.

Membership eligibility

Membership of the Society is open to Consuls General and career or honorary consuls duly accredited to New York and recognised by the United States Department of State. Members join in their official capacity and remain members for the duration of their posting.

How to join

How the Society is governed

The Society is governed by an Executive Committee elected annually by the membership. Seven regional groups each hold two seats, and the officers of the Society — President, Vice-Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer — are drawn from among the members of the Committee.
